FxPro: a CFD account, not a share register

This site links to FxPro, an international broker. The account is a contract for difference, not a purchase of shares. Read this page before you open one.

A dividend paid to the register, beside a cash adjustment on a price contract

A company pays a dividend to the shareholders on its register at the book closure start. A CFD on a share is a contract on the price of that share; no share is bought, nothing is registered in the reader's name at any depository, and the holder has no vote and no shareholder rights.

Where a share CFD is offered, any dividend-related payment is a cash adjustment made by the broker around the ex-dividend date under its own contract terms. It is not a dividend paid by the company. Its size and tax treatment are set by the broker's terms, which this site does not state.

Why a contract has no book closure, no bonus shares and no filer-status tax

A book closure applies to a company's share register. A CFD holder is not on that register, so no book closure date applies to the contract. A bonus issue of shares is also not delivered to a CFD holder; the broker may adjust the contract price, but the holder receives no extra shares.

The tax withheld at source on a dividend depends on the shareholder's filer status with the Federal Board of Revenue. A CFD cash adjustment is not a dividend, so that tax does not apply. The broker's own terms decide what, if anything, is withheld from the adjustment.

What to read in the terms before an account is opened from Pakistan

This site does not state whether FxPro lists any share from this country's exchange. What the broker's account offers is a price contract on global shares and indices. A Pakistani resident who opens an account deals with a foreign firm outside local supervision; FxPro is not supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.

A CFD on a share is not recorded at the Central Depository Company and does not appear in the reader's CDC account or UIN record. The reader must read the contract specification before relying on any dividend adjustment. Opening an account requires identity verification, and losses can be fast; the broker states that clients cannot lose more than the funds they deposited.

FxPro is not licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. An account is opened with a company regulated outside Pakistan - the group's companies are authorised by regulators such as the FCA in the United Kingdom - so a resident here deals with a foreign firm and the protections of a locally licensed one do not apply. A contract for difference on a share is not ownership of a share and is not recorded at the Central Depository Company. Sending money abroad for trading is subject to State Bank of Pakistan foreign exchange rules. Nothing on this site is investment advice.
